Picking up six months after the season one finale, the wealthy Darling clan find themselves embroiled in a murder trial with the family matriarch, Letitia (Jill Clayburgh), as the primary suspect.  Elsewhere, Tripp (Donald Sutherland) looks for a successor, Patrick (William Baldwin) advances his political career and Karen (Natalie Zea) continues to plot against Simon (Blair Underwood), her nemesis-turned-lover.  
As the family lawyer, Nick (Peter Krause) moves closer to learning about his father’s mysterious death. Lucy Liu ups the Diva factor this season, joining the cast as Nola Lyons, an attorney who takes an interest in playboy Jeremy Darling (Seth Gabel).
